The Government e-Marketplace now processes over ₹4 lakh crore in annual procurement, and MSMEs are guaranteed a 25% share.
Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is India's unified public procurement portal. By early 2026, it hosts over 14,000 product categories, more than 70 lakh sellers, and has processed cumulative orders exceeding ₹10 lakh crore.
The Public Procurement Policy mandates at least 25% of annual purchases from MSMEs, with 4% for SC/ST-owned and 3% for women-owned MSMEs.
If you are a registered MSME and you are not on GeM, you are leaving guaranteed government revenue on the table.
Mandatory. Apply at udyamregistration.gov.in using Aadhaar and PAN. Your UDYAM number qualifies you for the 25% reservation and other MSME government schemes.
Register free at gem.gov.in. You need: PAN, GST registration, UDYAM number, bank details, business address proof, digital signature certificate.
GeM uses standardised product categories. Match specifications exactly, price competitively, upload clear product images, and keep inventory updated.
Three mechanisms: direct purchase (under ₹25,000), L1 bidding, and reverse auctions. MSMEs with UDYAM get purchase preference — if your price is within 15% of L1, you may still win.
Buyers must process payments within 10 days of goods receipt. Far better than the old 60–90 day norm.
Apply for credit against confirmed GeM purchase orders. Partner banks disburse quickly, repayment is automatic when the buyer pays. See our MSME business loans guide for other financing options.
